THE MUSEUM
Spanning across 12.68 acres, Kala Bhoomi is a one stop shop for the Handicrafts and Handlooms of Odisha.
Divided into indoor and outdoor exhibits, with 8 galleries that cover Terracotta, Traditional Paintings, Stone and Wood carving, Metal crafts, Natural Crafts, Tribal Crafts, Pre-weaving techniques and sericulture and Handlooms, and 2 galleries still under construction, the museum is constantly growing


Part of the campus amenities are an Open-air theatre, childrens’ play area, souvenir shop, a canteen serving authentic odia cuisine and a café serving a more cosmopolitan fare.

The outdoor displays include courtyards dedicated to tribal living and temple architecture, wall paintings and outdoor exhibits that include terracotta items, wood items and stone sculpture.

The journey to create this museum began in the early 2000’s. The Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts department, Government of Odisha in a bid to preserve and promote the crafts dedicated land to that cause. Kala Bhoomi- Odisha Crafts Museum was formally inaugurated by Honbl’ CM Navin Patnaik on the 23rd of March 2018.
