6th Museum Walk - 15 July 2018

Heavy rain failed to dampen the devotion of thousands who turned up for a glimpse of the chariots of Lord Jagannath and his siblings during the ongoing Rath Yatra Festival at Puri .

Back in Bhubaneswar we paid a special tribute to Lord Jagannath with "Mahari" Dance recital after the usual weekend walk that had close to 40 participants .

The devadasis (temple dancers) of the Jagannath temple in Puri were known as Maharis and the dance form has taken its name from them. The devadasi tradition was abolished by the government after independence and thus the dance of the Maharis got marginalised gradually.

Glimpses of the Walk

Visitors were left mesmerised with the dance recital of the Maharis .
