EVENTS

Kala Bhoomi in a bid to bridge the gap between consumer, craftsman and craft provides
opportunities to experience and engage with the crafts through its events which include one day
workshops, Craft Conversations held over two days, Demonstrations, Crafts Bazaars that include
upcoming entrepreneurs and established names of the crafts sector as well as cultural programs.

Tribal Jewellery Workshop

Creating bracelets using techniques popularised by tribal communities, participants created ornaments using brass beads, wires and colourful threads.

Coir Craft Workshop

Participants of the workshop used rhetted coconut fibres to create coir toys such as horses and elephants.

Straw Craft Workshop

Using differently aged straw, participants, traced designs and used straw to create decorative items on black velvet.

Rakhi Workshop

To celebrate the sibling relationship, a workshop combining four crafts- Applique, Palm Leaf Etching, Pattachitra and Terracotta, participants customised their Rakhis.

Story Telling Activity

Lamp Making Workshop

Participants used two techniques of working with clay, the potter’s wheel and hand modelling to create terracotta lamps to take home with them

Golden Grass Workshop

Participants used Kaincha or Sikki grass, often referred to as golden grass because of its colour, to create decorative showpieces. 

Claymation

Animation with Clay- Participants of the workshop used coloured clay to create figures and sceneries that were then animated to create a short film.

Wood Painting Workshop

Combining the two crafts of wood carving and pattachitra, the event consisted of the painting of wooden toys in the pattachitra style.

Terracotta Workshop

Palm Leaf Workshop

Creating etched book marks using palm leaf fronds, a metal stylus and ink, participants customised their book marks to suit their interests.

Dhokra Workshop

Pattachitra Workshop

Solaptith Workshop

Participants using the inner pith of the Indian cork tree or Sola, created decorative items with motifs that included Lord Ganesha, Lord Jagannath and floral decorations. 

Wood Carving Workshop

Hand carved paper weights using Gamhari wood, this workshop provided an opportunity to experience the chiselling away of wood to reveal final designs.

Lacquerware Workshop

Play With Clay

Applique Workshop

Conducted around Independence Day, participants of the workshop created the flag of India using the techniques of stitching together small pieces of cloth also known as applique.

Ganjifa Cards Workshop
